  1. Friendship (C Porter; 1939)
  2. Brother, Can You Spare A Dime? (J Gorney, EY Harburg; 1932). This was considered the anthem of the Great Depression; Bing Crosby was the first to have a hit with it.
  3. If I Only Had A Brain (H Arlen, EY Harburg; 1938)
  4. Fresno (L Snydal; 1980). An uncalled-for slam on our favorite city in the valley, this song evolved over 20 years with help from Greg and Verne Schnaidt.
  5. Mood Indigo (B Bigard, EK Ellington, I Mills; 1940)
  6. Lili Marlene / D-Day Dodgers (M David, N Schultze, H Liep / H Henderson; 1915/1944). Shortly after the 1944 D-day Invasion, England's Lady Astor referred to the British troops in Italy as "D-day Dodgers," since they hadn't participated in the invasion. Having fought their way through North Africa into Italy, those soldiers were hardly amused: they proceeded to lampoon Astor to the favorite German tune "Lili Marlene." Hamish Henderson compiled and edited the lyrics.
  7. Nevertheless (I'm In Love With You) (B Kalmar, H Ruby; 1931).
  8. Lydia, The Tatooed Lady (H Arlen, EY Harbourg; 1937). Yip Harburg enjoyed writing lyrics for Groucho Marx and Bert Lahr (the Lion in The Wizard of Oz). This song is from the Marx Brothers' movie "A Day at the Circus."
  9. Once In A While (B Green, M Edwards; 1928)
  10. With Her Head Tucked Underneath Her Arm (RP Weston, WH Lee, RE Harris; 1934). An English music hall favorite commemorating Henry VIII. Larry heard it first on a Saskatchewan radio show in the 40's called "The Happy Hour."
  11. The Train Carrying Jimmy Rodgers Home (G Brown; 1938?). Jimmy Rodgers became one of the most popular singers in the US during the depths of the Great Depression. Upon his early death in 1933, Rodgers' coffin was sent around the country via rail and the country paid its last respects to the "Singing Brakeman."
  12. Ghost Chickens In The Sky. Frankie Lane did the original Ghost Riders in '47.
  13. Turn, Turn, Turn / My Back Pages (P Seeger; 1962 / B Dylan; 1969).
  14. Will Ye Gang To The Hielands, Lizzie Lindsay (Scottish Traditional)
  15. Paddy Doyle's Boots / It's A Long Way To Tipperary (Clancy Bros / J Judge, H Williams; 1912) Originally a British music hall love balled, it was adapted by Tommies as a marching song and readapted by US doughboys in 1917-18. The Red Army Chorus did a heavily-accented rendition of it in 1942, which then appeared in "Das Boot."
